With reference to the number of Grog shops I find that the number of spirit licences granted amounts to 27, of which 2 are Hotels, where soldiers do not drink, but where the Licence is held for the convenience of the class of travellers and others of a higher class than the soldiers who frequent it. 21 of these 25 are in the main street (Queen's Road) but one is in Stanley Street, a thoroughfare close by - this house is, I believe, a Billiard Establishment and not frequented by Soldiers. Consequently, all the public houses with which soldiers are concerned are in the Main street.
Whether the above number is too great for a place with a large seafaring and general population like Hongkong is a point
